Q: What is Avaya IP Office?
A: Avaya IP Office is an all-in-one solution specially designed to meet the communications challenges facing small and medium sized businesses. Due to its modular design, the solution can scale from 2 to 360 extensions to meet the needs of home offices, standalone businesses, and networked branch and head offices. Avaya phone system, built on the latest advancements in converged voice and data technology, small to mid-sized businesses can benefit from many of the advantages sophisticated communications deliver to enterprise operations.
Q: Do I require any special or custom software on my computer to use this Avaya phone system?
A: A computer or software is not required to use your Avaya phone system. However, users may access their Avaya phone features through a software client (Phone Manager Pro). Phone Manager Pro allows users to personalize calling features and manage calls without the need to remember cumbersome flash and star enabled codes.
Q: Will I be down for any length of time during setup?
A: In most cases, there will be very little downtime. A short disruption may occur in your phone service during the cut over process when we port your existing phone numbers being used on another service provider’s system. (If you are not porting existing numbers, this is not an issue.)
Q: Will it work with my existing phone lines?
A: The Avaya phone system can be configured as a voice-only PBX using traditional circuit-switched lines or as an IP telephony server using high-speed ISDN/PRI dial-up access and/or direct leased line connectivity. When acting as an IP telephony server, Avaya IP Office supports cost effective standards-based IP telephony (H323), quality of service (QoS) through DiffServ (for routing), 802.1p (when used in conjunction with a Cajun® local area network [LAN] switch), and remote locations connected via Frame Relay or VPN. In Avaya IP office, Voice calls can be allocated dynamically and can -bump- a multi-channel data transmission from one of its channels as needed to help ensure priority voice calls get through.
Q: What if I have more than one office?
A: Multiple Avaya phone system can be linked together using a standard data network, providing limited feature transparency and advanced applications such as centralized voice mail and call center. The data networking capabilities of Avaya IP Office include Internet or branch-to-branch based routing with firewall-protected Internet access and integral security. The Avaya phone system supports the QSIG protocol for improved networking and interoperability. If you only have a few users at your remote locations, then in certain instances a simple hardware based firewall is all you need.
Q: What are the benefits of the Avaya IP Office system?
A:
- Total voice and data communication solution for small and mid-sized businesses.
- Functions as a traditional phone system or an IP Telephony Server.
- Avaya phone system Supports both single locations and multi-site networks.
- Basic call center and voice messaging capabilities are built-in.
- Scalable as business needs grow.
Q: What about Voicemail in Avaya phone system?
A: Where a customer prefers to save space with an all-in-one-box solution or where a PC cannot be designated as a voicemail server then Embedded Voicemail is the preferred option. It can be used with Avaya supplied memory cards on the Avaya IP Office - Small Office Edition and the IP406V2. On the Small Office Edition it uses voice compression channels. VoiceMail Lite is the standard PC-based voicemail application provided with all IP Office platforms. VoiceMail Pro, also PC-based, builds on the features and facilities offered by VoiceMail Lite and can be tailored to meet the individual needs of a business by adding applications such as auto-attendant, call recording and advanced Call Queuing.
