Explain
your industry verbiage and definitions - you could be losing
business.
Every industry has it's own 'geek-speak'. Consumers are not
always in tune with insurance phrases. Even terms such as
'Annuities' and 'General Liabilty Insurance' are not exactly
terms that the average insurance buyer is aware of. You might
be losing business, and wasting the opportunity to upsell
or cross sell a program to your exisiting and future customers
simply because you did not explain your jargon clearly on
your website and other publications.
Use other people's content, where possible
There are literally thousands of articles and content out there
that you can use on your own website, so long as you give the
author credit. You will be surprised at how wholesome and relevant
some of this content is. Check out this article on How
to insure your business. There are many sites like goarticles.com
out there that offer up content use and distribution on your
website.
Get Listed in special directories
While we will be talking about site promotion in more detail
in the next part of this series, this section is an important
'must do'. Get listed in your industry specific web directories.
Most people think that showing up in the major search engines
is the only way to get quality traffic. This is not true,
get your website listed in the smaller search engine and domain
specific directories. So, for example, if you were a Life
Insurance Agent, get your site listed in the Life
Insurance section of directories such as Abbycon.com.
Besides giving you quality inbound links, you will be pleasantly
surprised at the quality traffic you get from these minor
league directories and search engines.
Use professionally designed templates
to keep your costs down.
When you have your website custom designed, you invariably
end up with hidden costs involved every time you make changes
to your website, especially if you don't have the HTML &
graphics skills in house. Which is why agencies are turning
to template based website services such as SiteWizard,
which not only offers you as much customization as you need,
but also allows easy and free changes to your website 24/7.
